Centrifugal decanters for the production of ethanol
In ethanol production, any inefficiency in the solid-liquid separation phase directly translates into yield losses and increased costs along the entire fermentation and distillation chain. Fermented musts contain exhausted yeasts, fibre, organic residues and biomass which, if not effectively removed, compromise the quality of the distillate and increase the load on subsequent units. CBB Decanter centrifugal decanters are the industrial solution designed to tackle this phase with the precision and continuity that a high-performance production process requires.
Industrial process
The material coming from the fermentation is fed into the rapidly rotating cylindrical-conical drum, where the centrifugal force clearly and quickly separates the solid phase, biomass, yeasts, fibrous residues, from the clarified liquid phase. The internal screw, operated at a differential speed with respect to the drum, progressively conveys the solids towards the discharge without interrupting the flow of the clarified product, which is continuously extracted from the other side. The possibility of intervening on the operating parameters in real time allows the separation to be adapted to variations in the fermented must, optimizing the purity of the clarified product and lightening the thermal and mechanical load on the distillation columns.
CBB Decanter Technology
CBB Decanters for ethanol production are engineered to work with continuously changing mixtures: fibrous residues of different grain sizes, biomass with variable characteristics and organic compounds sensitive to mechanical stress. The geometry of the drum guarantees uniform sedimentation even with low consistency materials, limiting solid losses in the clarified material. The profile of the screw is optimized to manage the solids without jams, preserving operational continuity even in the phases of greatest variability of the must. Integrated control systems monitor flow rate, torque and differential speed in real time, allowing the machine to react autonomously to process fluctuations. Materials resistant to organic corrosion and low-wear components guarantee long operating life in continuous systems.
